Hope lives!!

See why I am optimistic!! This is the third time we have had our turkeys set eggs, the first time was a total loss. The second time two hens ‘co-nested’ and the one chick they hatched was co-parented to death (imagine having two insanly overprotective mothers). This time we had success (or rather she did).

These 5 poults will chill in the chicken tractor until all the other turkeys get processed on November 17th, and then they will rejoin the breeders till closer to Christmas. I’m not looking forward to processing in December, but that’s kind of how it worked out this year.

    Nice!! I think you must be doing something right, as I hear so many tales of woe in getting turkeys to successfully rear.

      It hasn’t been easy! Well, I suppose we haven’t really done the hard work, but on a management side, we are pretty sure we have at least 50% of the bugs worked out… Now we are trying to decide if we want to keep breeders at all…
